Study Links Late Shifts To Increased Breast Cancer Risk ? CBS ...

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ? Working the night shift may be harmful to a woman?s health.

Researchers in Denmark say women who work overnights more than twice a week might be increasing their risk for breast cancer. They can be nearly four times as likely to develop the disease.

It?s not clear why the risk increases, but it seems to be highest among women who are morning people.

It may have something to do with a lack of the cancer-protecting hormone melatonin, which is produced by the brain in the dark.
