NEW YORK (AP) ? Defense lawyers for a New York police officer charged with conspiring to kill and eat women are set to begin presenting their evidence to a federal court jury.
The defense for Officer Gilberto Valle is expected to begin Tuesday morning with the showing of a videotaped deposition of a Russian man who runs a fetish website.
A defense lawyer told a Manhattan judge Monday that Valle may have to testify unless he grants a request by the defense for a judgment of acquittal. The lawyers made the request after the government finished presenting evidence after showing jurors disturbing images found on Valle's computer.
Valle has insisted through his lawyers that he was fantasizing on the Internet and intended no harm. The government claims he was preparing with others to kidnap and kill six women, including his wife.
