Hollywood heavy Ben Affleck signed onto Twitter yesterday, which must have come as quite a surprise to the 18,895 fans who follow @BenAffleck_!
The Cambridge homey began tweeting at noon yesterday and by 3 p.m. had more than 9,000 followers. Not bad, but still just half as many as the impostor who has been tweeting as ?The Town? star, albeit with the telltale underline mark, since 2010!

Ben?s new Twitter account coincided with his appearance today in D.C. alongside Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and USAID administrator Rajiv Shah at a panel on preventable child mortality in the Congo and worldwide.
Twitter immediately verified Affleck?s account with the all-important checkmark, which likely spells doom for @BenAffleck_. Word is, Ben?s peeps have asked the social media giant to pull the plug on the fake Ben and it could be done as early as today.
Twitter, as you may know, has a strict impersonation policy that prohibits ?accounts pretending to be another person or entity in order to confuse or deceive.? And the fake Affleck was certainly on a roll as far as that goes. He has tweeted about the Congo, his ?brother? Matt Damon, his real ?brother? Casey Affleck and even the Red Sox [team stats]!
?I think we should celebrate Bobby Valentine?s birthday more often. 3-game winning streak? I?ll take it,? he posted back in May, you know, when the Sox were actually winning a few in a row ...
But the impersonator crossed the line into creepy more than once, but no more so than in May 2010 when he tweeted about Ben?s real wife, Jennifer Garner, thusly: ?mrs affleck sends a lot of xoxo?s as her hair falls across her shoulder. how simply beautiful is that??

As for the real Affleck, he was immediately welcomed to the Twitterverse with a barrage of shout-outs and more than a few mash notes.
