Kristen Stewart: I've Gotta Be Me!

Her actions with Rupert Sanders may have been deplorable, but Kristen Stewart's immediate public apology was both unusual and heartfelt.

Say what you want about her actual affair, but the statement didn't read like it was crafted by a publicist for the actress.

And that goes along with Stewart's long-time public image of someone clearly uncomfortable in the spotlight, someone unwilling to just pose and smile and give the paparazzi what they want.

She touched on the reason why in an interview at Comic-Con last month.

“I’ve never been able to fully form this thing, this persona, that some people are so f-cking good at. That’s an art," Stewart told EW not long before her infidelity became national news.

"I don’t want anyone leaving and saying, ‘God, that girl is so fake.’ People tell me to make it easier on myself and to play a character when I go out on carpets and stuff. But you know what? I’d rather be me.”

It's an admirable life philosphy. But there's a question Stewart will now face going forward every time she looks in the mirror: Does she like that person?
