Modest Florida energy policy bill goes to Scott

By The Associated Press

A Florida energy policy bill that would restore expired tax credits and other incentives for renewables is on its way to Gov. Rick Scott.

The bill (HB 7117) cleared the House 116-2. It's a scaled down version of Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam's original proposal for what he termed "modest" energy legislation.

It was Putnam's first offering since responsibility for energy matters shifted to him from the governor's office.

The bill has drawn criticism, though, from the state's renewable energy industry because it would eliminate the setting of renewable goals for electric utilities.

That requirement, though, has been a stumbling block in efforts to develop a state energy policy because it's met resistance from utilities and lawmakers worried about the cost of meeting those standards.
